Lake Como Railways

Europe’s railways are renowned for their quality, comfort and reliability and truly allow you to witness the breath-taking scenery of continental Europe as you make your way to Italy.

Once in Italy, the rail link from Como to Milan is quick and cheap and there are some interesting mountain routes which make a great day out all year round.

To get to Como by rail from the three Milan airports or from Milan here are some suggestions.

Malpensa Airport to Lake Como

From Malpensa airport you take the Malpensa Express as far as Saronno (one course every 30 minutes travel time 20 minutes). Change at Saronno and take the train to Como (travel time 40 minutes). For the train times you can consult www.lenord.it/orari – you arrive at the station called Como Lago. From here you can take bus line C10. For the bus timetable you can consult www.sptlinea.it – Alternatively, you can take the hydrofoil to the village of your choice. The boat dock is 100 metres from the train station Como Lago. Linate Airport to Lake Como

Take the shuttle bus Linate Airport – Milan Central Station (runs every 20 minutes travel time approx. 20 min). From Milan Central Station train to Como San Giovanni station travel time approx. 40 minutes.

Once you arrive at the train station Como San Giovanni, then take either the C10 bus or the ferry.

Alternatively, from Milan Central Station to Varenna Esino (train line direction Sondrio) travel time is approximately one hour. For the timetable consult www.trenitalia.it.

From Varenna you take the ferry across the lake to Menaggio, Cadenabbia, Tremezzo, or Lenno (travel time 15 minutes). For the ferry timetable consult: www.navigazionelaghi.it. Be advised that the last ferry is at around 7.30 pm.

Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport to Lake Como

Take the shuttle bus ATB to the railway station at Bergamo FS. The ticket machine is at the bus stop. From Bergamo FS take the train to Varenna Esino, changing at Lecco, (approx 1hr 30 mins) for the timetable consult www.trenitalia.it. From Varenna you take the ferry across the lake to Menaggio, Cadenabbia, Tremezzo, or Lenno (travel time 15 minutes). For the timetable consult: www.navigazionelaghi.it. Be advised that the last ferry is at around 7.30pm depending on the season.

Alternatively, take the shuttle to Milan Central Station. The shuttle runs every 20 minutes travel time is approximately 20 minutes. From Milan Central Station train to Como San Giovanni station travel time is around 40 minutes.
