Winter on Lake Como
Some say that winter on Lake Como is when the lake is at its best as there are few tourists and the amazing shimmering browns and golds of Autumn create an incredible backdrop to the tranquility of the lake.
As the summer season eases, the ubiquitous ferry service goes into slow mode and a new level of serenity falls gracefully across the water. The lake sheds its summer skin to reveal a beauty that can only be described as stunning.
Hiding amongst the peace and quiet (if it’s peace and quiet you want, you’ll find it here in abundance) lies the beating heart of a real working lake that still thrives even when the tourists have gone.
The nearby Swiss town of Lugano (approximately 60 mins by car) is great for traditional Swiss chocolates and food as well as shopping. Milan known for fashion and style and designer shops is only two hours by car or train. If you fancy doing something a little closer to home then you can find plenty of culture, food and shopping in Como town which is only 30 minutes by car or approximately (30 minutes to one hour by local bus depending on what part of the Lake you are situated in).
For the sport enthusiasts, why not try Madesimo for skiing (1 hour and 20 mins by car). There are plenty of pistes for all abilities and lots of easy ski runs for the kids too. However, if you simply want to bask in the chilly, but satisfying winter sun, why not relax and enjoy the lake’s micro climate.
